Diabetes Yarning and more programs to help you and your clients
While COVID-19 social distancing restrictions have affected our ability to conduct our usual face to face programs, we’ve been working to offer these programs online.
Some of our popular webinars at the moment include label reading, carbohydrates, looking after your feet and getting insulin right.
If you or your clients are looking to join in any of our online programs, check out our website for what’s on.
We’ll let you know when they’re up and running
We’ll be sure to let you all know when we’ve got our online Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs up and running. You can bet they’ll be interactive, fun and informative.
Our main program for community members will be the Diabetes Yarning Program.
Over the past 11 years, we’ve delivered innovative and fun community programs like Got Suga and professional development programs like Feltman Training.
Today, we’re acting on feedback that has been provided over these years and we have started trialling the Diabetes Yarning Program.
What you’ve told us
The program is based on the following foundations that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have told us over the years:
- Talk with us, not at us. Let’s yarn
- It’s about education and empowerment, not compliance
- When developing resources, a picture is worth a thousand words
- When it comes to diabetes and health in general, you need to talk about our history and culture also, not just look at it from a medical model.
