Type 2 Diabetes Diet

The aim for planning diet for patients with Type 2 diabetes is to control the blood glucose level and to lose weight. Type 2 diabetes patients are always overweight, and hence planning their diet is necessary for them. They should also perform regular exercises, as a way of losing weight.




  1. Fiber

Fibers are good in aiding control of blood glucose and digestion. Plant foods are the sources of fiber. Fiber helps in reducing hunger, as they make us feel fuller so for diabetics who should lose weight should eat less. Finder reduces the risk of getting heart disease and high blood pressure. To get more fiber, eat foods such as brown rice, cooked dried peas and beans, vegetables and fruits, whole-grain cereals, crackers and bread.

  1. Salt

Diabetics should avoid much salt. This is diabetics are at a high risk of getting high blood pressure, and salt aid in this. They should avoid eating salty snacks, canned meats, processed or cured foods, olives, steak and soy sauces and salt seasonings.

  1. Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are great sources of energy. They are classified into two, complex and simple carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates sources include beans, whole grains and nuts. They are much recommended for diabetics, since digestion takes long on them and hence they provide a steady source of energy. An example of a simple carbohydrate is sugar.




Type 2 diabetes patients should consider taking the following sources of carbohydrates :

– Yoghurt and milk

– Starchy vegetables like beans and potatoes

– Fruits

– Rice


Type2 diabetes patients should also control the amount of carbohydrates they take. This because if they take too much carbohydrates than the insulin produced in their body, their blood sugar level will rise. If you eat less, the blood sugar will fall to a low level. So, see your doctor for this.
