Types of Diabetes, Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes mellitus ( diabetes ) is a very serious disease. Diabetes is a state of chronic hyperglycemia caused by numerous of genetic and environmental factors. There are two types of diabetes :

– Type 1

– Type 2

Type 1 diabetes is a condition in which our pancreas does not produce insulin at all. It is also called a juvenile diabetes because it is most common for children and early adults. Type 1 diabetes accounts about of 15% of all cases in the population, and it is most common type found in childhood. The main symptoms of type 1 diabetes are going tothe toilet a lot, thirst, thrush or genital itching, slow healing of wounds, blurred vision, tiredness and weight loss.

In Type 2 diabetes the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or your cells do not response to the insulin. In this type insulin can not open the cell doors properly because too much of fat deposits, and then the glucose can not enter the cells, so the level of glucose continues to rise. The symptoms of type 2 diabetes come along very slowly and some people do not have any signs at all, an for that reason people can live with type 2 diabetes even 10 years before they know they have diabetes. Symptoms that may occure are : frequent urination, thirst, thrush or genital itching, slow healing wounds, blurred vision, tiredness, weight loss. Type 2 accounts about 85 % of all cases and it is most common in over 40’s age group in white population, and over 25’s age group in black and South Asian population.

In both types of diabetes when blood glucose levels rise, cells do not take up the additional glucose so blood glucose remains high.
